Why OnePlus is About to Die

OnePlus has never seemed like your typical Chinese brand. They had Flagship killer phones that run on a slick, intuitive software which is relatively close to stock Android called OxygenOS.

Recently, OnePlus has made a lot of puzzling move. Most notably, merging with Oppo. You might already know this, but OnePlus, Realme, Vivo and Oppo came from the same parent company. BBK electronics. Just keep this in the back of your mind as you read this. So OnePlus owners or anyone who is considering a OnePlus phone, listen up.

Android 12 Update

When the Oxygen OS 12 beta came out, people were very surpised to see that the Oxygen OS launcher is gone. This is instead replaced with the Color OS launcher that is used by Oppo phones.

The Oxygen OS launcher is not the only thing that’s gone though. The OnePlus settings app and even the camera app that OnePlus spend so much on. The Hasselblad inspired camera app, with their signature orange shutter button is completely gone.

Instead, all of the things that is gone are replaced with Oppo alternatives. The settings app is replaced with the Oppo settings app. The camera app is also the Oppo app.

Camera and Image Processing

While the camera app and even the gallery and editing app is replaced with Oppo alternatives. The image processing stayed the OnePlus style. Underexposing shadows, aggressive HDR and great dynamic range. All of it stayed, which I think is mostly a good thing. However, I really think that OnePlus would benefit from Oppo’s night mode. I think that Oppo’s night mode is right behind the Pixel’s, which means it’s not bad at all.

UI

OnePlus always had great UI in my opinion. They ran on a slick, intuitive software that still somewhat stuck to stock Android. Oxygen OS is the main reason I rock a OnePlus 9 Pro daily over any other Android Flagships. It was the main reason why they were able to create and have such a loyal fanbase. With this gone though, I think that OnePlus would lose its main appeal to a lot of people and have to enter the spec race with other Android flagships.

Don’t take this the wrong way though, there is nothing wrong with Color OS. But the thing is, it isn’t Oxygen OS. I mean, I bought the OnePlus 9 Pro for the true Oxygen OS experience. If I wanted the Color OS experience, I would’ve bought an Oppo Find X3 Pro, NOT the OnePlus 9 Pro.

General Settings

There really is nothing special here aside from the fact that the icons and stuff have moved to the Color OS settings app. The dark mode got some more options, all the Color OS perks, nothing to talk about.

Conclusion

So that’s all you need to know about the new Oxygen OS 12 update. Let me know what you think about it? Are you hyped for this update? Or do you think they should let us have an option to NOT update? let me know!
