Poco F3, What Is Value?

A few months back, this company called Poco, who is a sub brand of Xiaomi launched a phone called the Poco F3 alongside the Poco X3 Pro, which I will talk about in a later writing. Poco have always been know for giving people value for money, but this one is just so much value for your money, it’s kind of scary. So I think it’s time we talk about it.

The Specs

This Poco phone is all about the specs, so I think it’s only fair that we talk about first. This spec behemoth’s got everything, a 120Hz, AMOLED, HDR10+ display. It’s got 8GB of RAM, it’s got a 48Mega Pixel main camera, an IP53 rating, stereo speakers, 4500mAh battery and fast charging. The main thing that is most surpising of all though, is its Snapdragon 870. It’s basically an overclocked version of the 865+, which was already an overclocked version of the 865! The Snapdragon 800 series is almost reserved for flagships, the 865+ was used in Samsung’s Note 20 Ultra, and OnePlus’s 8 Pro. Those phones were 1000$!

The Software

This value king runs MIUI 12 for POCO on top of Android 11. There is quite a bit of bloatware on the phone though, a lot of Chinese apps that you’ll probably never use. However, I think you’ll be surprised by how many of them can be simply uninstalled.

What will cause you quite a hassle though, is the ads that it will give you from time to time, but you can disable them from the settings if you wanted to. There is ads when you install an app, when you uninstall an app, there is many ads in first party apps too. You can disable most if not all of them but they will be there when you first get the phone. There are quality control on these ads though so there’s nothing to worry about.

The Camera System

The Poco F3 might not have the best camera hardware, but it is still a very respectable camera system. Paired with the camera software of Poco, it shoots out reasonable, acceptable photos. It has a 48 Mega Pixel main censor with a 8 Mega Pixel ultra-wide and a 5 Mega Pixel Micro lens. There’s nothing inherently wrong with this camera system, but if you are a very photography focused person, this is not the one to get. The 20 Mega Pixel selfie camera is fine. Very average.

The Hardware

The Poco F3 have a 4520mAh battery, so you might still wanna bring a small power bank with you if you’re a power user. However, if you consider yourself a light user or even an average user, it should have no problem lasting you through the entire day. Moreover, The Poco F3 have 33 watt fast charging including in the box, unlike some fruit out there. So there should be nothing to worry about.

The “Real Beast” as Poco calls it, has Corning Gorilla 5 on the front and the back. With a plastic frame that scratches quite easily. A screen protector and a case who we necessary if you’re planning to keep this thing flawless.

It has none-expandable storage, IP 53 Splash resistance, stereo speaker with the no headphone jack. Comes in Arctic White, Night Black and Deep Ocean Blue. 6–8GB of RAM, 128–256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. 5G ready as well.

Should You Buy It?

Absolutely. This is probably the best value phone any company have ever released. I think that you should buy the 6/128GB version though. The 8/256GB is not as good value, but if you need the extra storage, the 8/256GB is still a bargain.
